With the second national lockdown now in full swing, the crew at The Bell & Crown’s fear of boredom and their relentless desire to feed people has led them to open as a takeaway.
They’re open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, from 5.30pm – 8.30pm, serving from the little takeaway hatch that Tommy finds such pleasure standing behind – as you can see in the picture.
As well as food, you can also indulge in draught beer and ale from a milk bottle! They’re emptying the cellars, conditioning the remaining ale and tactfully dispensing the cask-conditioned ‘pub juice’ in four pint takeaway milk bottles.
Together with a few new dishes, the legendary sourdough pizza returns.
Call 01747 840404 to order and they’ll start cooking. If you’d like to pre-order, that’s fine too. There’s a friendly voice at the end of the phone waiting to take your order and if, for whatever reason, the voice happens to be elsewhere, please leave a message.
It couldn’t be easier. Call 01747 840404
Things are clearly different this time around but as ever The Bell & Crown truly appreciate the support.
In the words of The Bell and Crown team … ‘We’re always very humbled’.

They’re strictly adhering to the government advice issued, and as a result having to limit the number of guests we can welcome. They’re not taking reservations for those of you who’d like to pop in for a drink, but as a result cannot guarantee that there will be a table available. They’re sorry in advance if they can’t squeeze you in.
The team there are super conscious that they get this right, and are also aware that they’re going to be one of the area’s first pubs to open. They promise to do everything they can to welcome you responsibly, and their team will be trained to follow the rules.
They have shared ‘how they are doing things in the new normal’, together with their COVID-19 risk assessment with their customers via their website.
We’re so excited to see you all again. And thank you for your support and understanding so far. Just please bear with us whilst we get to grips with pandemic pub life ❤️

It’s time to treat yourself, have a ‘night out’ at home. Amazing Sourdough Pizza prepared for you at the Bell & Crown, Zeals.
Following the success of the Bell & Crown at Zeals transforming themselves overnight into an amaizing community centred Pie Shop – #pieitforward , they still recognise that being closed at the moment is the best thing they can do. ”We want this to blow over and we want people to stay safe and well. We also want people to enjoy a break from the monotony of home cooking”
So, in addition to the Great British Pies offering that’s been running since March; on Friday and Saturday night it’s now Pizza Night.
If you’ve been missing really tasty crispy pizza, well you don’t have to anymore, because on Fridays and Saturdays you can now collect these, freshly cooked, from the kitchen at the Bell & Crown, Zeals.
It’s a proper sourdough base pizza. Traditionally, these take ages to prove but only minutes to cook, meaning the crust is crispy on the outside and wonderfully chewy in the middle. With a variety of delicious, locally sourced ingredients used for the tasty toppings if you close your eyes when you eat – you could almost be in Napoli.
Call 01747 840404 to order yours and don’t forget to ask about dips and drinks if you want to add these to your order to collect.

There’s never been a better time to enjoy staying in but ‘eating out’.
Due to the present situation they are finding that there are more people looking for a regular doorstep delivery service. Could that be you?
Newhouse Farm Dairy deliver 3 days a week in the early hours of the day so that the products are fresh for use first thing. In most cases they ask for a cool box or similar to be placed on the doorstep or drive, bills are delivered with the product at the end of the month with payment via bacs or cheque. As the products are fresh, and with a short shelf life, customers are encouraged to have a standing order over the week, which enables the milkmen to carry the goods for delivery on a pre-ordered basis. Orders can be changed via phone or email but with 48 hours notice, so that we have the stock in our fridges prior.
If you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact Richard & Wendy Pike Newhouse Farm Dairy 01747 822700, or visit the website at www.milkandmore.co.uk

Wincanton Fruit and Veg have been overwhelmed by calls from customers recently. To deal with these increased levels of contact during this initial period of self- isolating and until things settle down they’ve added extra numbers to help accomodate demand.
It would really help them if you can email your orders to firstname.lastname@example.org . They will then pick and pack and call you to confirm. The current delivery wait time is about 3 to 4 days. In addition to the existing phone number, 07871 609345 (Claudia); the two additonal numbers are 07515 554549 (Helen) and 07527 727947 (Holly). But wherever possible please use email, plan ahead and be prepared to offer alternatives.
Based on the Wiltshire/Dorset border, La Chasse is a specialty food distribution business with years of experience in the food industry. Normally, La Chasse provides fantastic, locally produced must-haves and high quality ingredients to the wholesale trade; including pubs, hotels and restaurants. However, as a result of Coronavirus, they’re now one of many local businesses that have taken on a new community focussed outlook.
La Chasse now offer an extensive list of products to the public
This refocus from wholesale to providing products directly to the public has enabled La Chasse not only to help provide a much needed service to the local community during unprecedented times, but it also means that the business can continue to look after their dedicated workforce, whist supporting their own wide range of suppliers.
To make it more accessible to the local community, La Chasse have recently taken the decision to :
reduce the minimum order to £40.00, dependent on location,
include free delivery to your door, dependent on location,
With their distinctive branded fleet of chilled vehicles, which you’ve probably seen around, La Chasse are now offering a wide range of products to the public. The full list of products (currently spanning 18 pages) is available on www.lachasselimited.co.uk . However do bear in mind that La Chasse is not a supermarket, and the products may well be more geared to wholesale caterers in terms of packing size, quantity and type, however they will be constantly updating their range as time passes.
We would be grateful if you can share this with your friends who may not have access to the internet. For the current list of other local services we are aware of, please click here.
